Catch him at Coachella: Bassnectar
In recent days ive been quite stuck on Bassnectar, so much so that Ive really had no need to listen to anything else. His music has everything I look for in a producer: Bass, rhythm, creativity, power, diversity and so much more. Lorin Ashton has been producing and remixing since the mid-nineties yet when I discovered his music late 2009 – what I heard did not sound dated. It didnt sound cliche, I couldn’t say “That sounds like the shit I use to listen to back in ___”, It is timeless. Ashton covers virtually every bass driven genre out there, twisting and molding it to whatever he chooses: Breakbeat, DnB, Dubstep, Trip-Hop, Big Beat … all done with sub-breaking force. Bassnectar must have a crush on the devil because these beats are truly wicked and I reccomend them to any fan of electronic music. Although he just finished touring for his 2009 full-length Cozza Frenzy album, Lorin is charging straight into 2010 with tour dates all the way through June (Coachella Saturday, April 17th). So pick up a copy of Cozza Frenzy and catch one of those tour dates, you will not regret this.
