New Music and Interview with JAUNT

TiltAdmin on January 16, 2010 - 7:03 am in Featured, TiltMag Exclusives

A few weeks ago I contacted one of my favorite artists, Jaunt, a French Duo from France on Work It Baby Recordings. Work It Baby Recordings is a reputable record label with an all-star roster including: Charlie Fanclub, Donovan, Fred Falke, Jaunt, Kris Menace, Moonbootica and Savage. Jaunt first caught my attention 2 years ago with their song “Traveling” and their whole Traveling EP. I’ve been hooked ever since.

When we reached out to them they offered to give us this exclusive Best of Mix.
Download Via YSI HERE!

You can tell by this mix that this is a seasoned Disco/House Group. Jaunt creates a very positive vibe and infuses their music with an all analog dreamy, sexy style. You would think that with all the effects and incredible synths that they would be using Ableton or Reason to create their sound. No way! This group knows how to keep it original an use only the best analog equipment available. Take note young producers. To have that vintage sound, you have to to get some original vintage equipment. I will let the interview with them explain the rest.

TILT-How long have you guys been making music?

Hans-Christian:I started buying gear around 2004
Vincent: I bought my first Sampler (Akai S3200) with the age of 15. This was 15 years ago. Question: How old am i now? 😉

TILT -What are a few of your inspirations and who are some artists who have inspired you?

HC: For me it was Daft Punk, Alan Braxe and Fred Falke. Later i started collecting old Italo disco records.
V: Inspirations come from everywhere: Films, Music, Books, etc. Some artists that inspired me are DJ Shadow, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Daft Punk, Kraftwerk, Soft Cell, Vince Clark, Ramon Zenker (Hardfloor) and lots of 80s Music.

TILT-How is the scene in europe?

HC: There was a big electro wave here in scandinavia the last few years, all the clubs playing the same thing. Now it seems that the styles are more diverse again and clubs offer different acts. I think its a good thing, you get more experiences in one night having 3 differnet acts playing each their style, than electro from 10 to 5.

V: Germany e.g. is huge. We habe lots of electronic music here but unfortunately still too much minimal stuff. But House and Disco is coming back. I can feel it 🙂

TILT-Have you guys been to the U.S. to tour? Will you be soon?

HC: No not yet. We´ll carry on negotiatons with some bookers.

TILT-If so would you be interested in playing for TILT at one of our concerts?

V: Yes why not?

TILT-What are some of your upcoming works?

HC: Right now we have a new track called “Evolver” out on the Work It Baby 10th Anniversary Edition. A few weeks ago we started collecting ideas and demos for our first album.

TILT-Are you an all digital group or do you use analog synths and beatmachines?

V:We´re an all analog artist. We don´t use PlugIns or something like that. In our studio we have around 40 samplers and synthesizer. Therefrom we mostly use Sequential Circuits Prophet-5, Roland MKS-80 SuperJupiter (Jupiter-8 as rack version), Roland Jupiter-4, Roland Juno-106, some Oberheims and so on. There are also lots of analog hardware effects, dynamic tools and tape recorders that we use to create our tracks.
