ON REPEAT: JAMAICA’S “I THINK I LIKE U 2”

We here at TILT are crazy about the song “I Think I Like U 2” by hot new French band Jamaica, made up of Antoine Hilaire and Flo Lyonnet formerly of Poney Poney. With a strong, throwback to 80’s sound, complete with crispy metallic electric guitars and an album produced by Justice’s Xavier de Rosnay and Peter Franco (Daft Punk soundman,) we predict these guys are going to be one of the hugest acts to debut this year. In fact Mike says they are going to be bigger than Vampire Weekend (lol) and even bet me a taco on it. So JAMAICA, you have a lot of pressure on you now as the first official TILT Taco Bet. I wish you the best guys, and will gladly buy Mike a taco for it! I won’t even run to the border and settle for Taco Bell. I’ll get him THE GOOD SHIT.
Apparently in order to be backed by Xavier and Peter Franco for this album, there was one condition Jamaica had to follow: synthesizers in the studio were banned! Xavier also produced the song “Cross The Fader” back in the Poney Poney days, so can we expect Justice to remix any Jamaica tunes? If so, I owe Mike a margarita…IS THIS ANOTHER BET?!
The video for “I Think I Like U 2” is a charmingly cocky, VH1’s Behind The Music-style mockumentary of the band’s timeline. I can already see this song being used in some opening credits and commercials, can’t you?
We should expect a full-length from Jamaica in August. Until then, we will keep a close eye on them! For now, you can catch them on the latest Kitsuné Maison compilation alongside Hurts, who we previously blogged about. Can’t wait to see what they are going to bring for us this year! And boys, holla at us if that Justice remix becomes real…’cause if that happens I will break out the Patrón!

I bet a taco too! they re my fave at the moment!
Wow, I know the French appreciate consistency and all, but is there some kind of new law requiring pop bands in France to sound exactly like Phoenix?
Peter’s also the Justice sound man
I smell some Tacos COOKIN!
Mikes going to win this bet!
