As the sun becomes a more permanent fixture in the skies, it is apt that we feature a duo who’s music will be stoking the worlds disco fires summer long. The Welsh pair (Tom Morgan & James Thomas) have recently put pen to paper with Kris Menace’s Paris based label “Work It Baby” which is enough to grab the attention of any french filter house aficionado. They’ll be rubbing shoulder’s with label brother’s such as Fred Falke, Lifelike, Xinobi, Patrick Alavi, Serge Santiago and, of course Kris Menace who’s debut single together with Lifelike ‘Discopolis’ is a certified summer classic. The boys have been busy of late producing their own material as well as remixing the works of Louis La Roche, Pony Pony Run Run, Passion Pit and Fred Falke. Keep your ears to the ground for their debut EP which is will be released on Work It Baby on June 20th , perfect timing for summer!

I caught up with Tom prior to their show with french touche pioneer Alan Braxe in London last weekend, which was, as you can imagine an absolute riot in capital city!

– First thing’s first, when are you boys coming to the states?

At the moment we don’t have any particular plans to play Stateside but very soon we’ll have a booking agent who will hopefully get us some dates in the US.

– Where did you two meet?

We met through starting a band when we were 16. We both had friends who had similar music taste so we started a post hardcore band in which I was the singer and James was the guitarist.

– Who would you class as your main influences ?

We’re influenced by many different genres and artists, we listen to a lot of Funk and Disco for samples and ideas, Punk, new and old French House; pretty much anything that’s good really.

– Congratulations on the ‘Work It Baby’ deal, how did it come to fruition?

Our management (Three Six Zero Group) have been looking after Work It Baby for a while. They forwarded our EP to Kris and he liked what he heard and accepted it immediately!

– If you could choose one festival to play at this summer, which would it be?

Without a doubt it would’ve been Coachella. We’ve been watching the footage and it looks amazing. The DFA 1979 and Ratatat performances were so good. The lineup every year is outstanding. It would be an amazing festival to play at.

– Who are your three favourite up and coming artists?

There’s an upcoming Welsh producer called Ifan Dafydd who is definitely one to look out for in the future. At the moment he’s keeping things pretty quiet, but when he releases his stuff he’s going to have a big following! Also we like Madeon, a 16 year old French producer who is way beyond his years, and of course, our new band Cafe Zurich

– What’s your favourite “Work It Baby’ release to date?

Xinobi’s new EP ‘The Best of Me’ is really cool with it’s tropical vibes. But overall Fred Falke’s releases have been our favourites and were the main reason we thought Work It Baby was the place for our debut EP.

– What’re your plans for the rest of the year?

At the moment we’re going through plans with our management for the summer and beyond. Our main plans for the moment are getting our first EP out in June, we’ve already begun working on the next one and we’ll hopefully have that ready to go by the end of the year.

– Did you two ever think of masking your identities like those punks, if you were hide behind a guise, which would you choose?

We thought about it when we first started, but we saw the music thing as a hobby initially so we never actually covered our faces at all. By the time we properly considered it there were too many photos of us already on the internet. If we were to cover our faces we would probably go with wearing masks of each others face. I think that’s the only way we could do it now!

Thanks very much Tom!
